Customs and Immigration Assistance in India

International flights to India require liaison with Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ). Continuum Aviation provides end-to-end CIQ support to expedite the process. We prepare all Arrival/Departure cards and General Declaration forms in advance, capturing passport and visa details so your time at the counter is minimal. In major Indian airports (Delhi, Mumbai), flight crews often clear immigration via a separate “crew lane” in about 5–10 minutes. Passengers likewise can often be escorted through premium immigration channels (subject to approvals).

Customs and Immigration Assistance

For customs, Continuum ensures any duty-free allowances (e.g. personal goods, alcohol) are declared correctly. India has relatively relaxed quarantine rules for business flights; for example, you may offload catering or perishables freely. We coordinate with customs for temporary importation of equipment or pets, obtaining any necessary paperwork in advance. By notifying CIQ officials of your flight details ahead of arrival and escorting your party in person, Continuum keeps clearance times very low. Passports (6-month validity) and visas must be valid on arrival; Continuum checks these before departure. In urgent cases (medical evacuation, humanitarian), special waivers can sometimes be obtained for ambulance flights in under a few hours. Overall, Continuum’s India CIQ assistance means fast, hassle-free airport entry and exit.

FAQs – Customs & Immigration India

What visa do I need for India?

Nearly all foreign crew and passengers need visas. Operating crew must hold a valid Business (Crew) e-Visa arranged before arrival; visitor visas or business visas cover others. Continuum’s visa service helps secure all necessary visas/clearances.

Can I get visa on arrival in India?

No – since 2017, all crew and visitors must pre-arrange visas (ETA e-Visa for eligible nationals).

How quick is immigration clearance?

If documents are in order, we aim for under 15 minutes per person at major airports. Crews using the reserved “crew lane” often clear in ~5 minutes. Continuum ensures forms are pre-filled to expedite this.

What documents are needed?

Valid passports (6+ months), visas, aircraft documents (B707, AOC). Continuum prepares your General Declaration with pax names and ensures crew IDs are ready as needed.

Is customs strict?

India enforces customs rules but is relatively lenient for personal imports. Declare large amounts of currency (over USD 10,000) and any electronics beyond normal use. Alcohol and tobacco have duty-free allowances (8L liquor, 200 cigarettes typical). Overages incur duty. Continuum advises on declarations and can request “Green Channel” if nothing to declare.

Do you assist with quarantine?

For private aircraft, there are typically no food-plant or animal quarantine restrictions. Continuum coordinates with airport biosecurity if needed (e.g., clearing pet travel, which requires certificates).

What is “fast-track immigration”?

It’s a priority service (often at Chennai, Bangalore) where officials process your group quickly. We can arrange it subject to approval, cutting wait times.

What is CIQ?

Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine collectively. Continuum makes one escort who guides you through all three steps at the airport.

Can we fill out forms online?

India’s e-Visa requires online application in advance. Arrival cards and customs forms are paper, but Continuum pre-fills them to save time.

Do I need a health certificate?

No specific vaccine is mandated for India (except yellow fever if coming from an endemic country). We recommend routine vaccines be up-to-date.

What happens on departure?

Continuum assists with departure immigration by arranging any required visas for onward destination and submitting flight plans as needed. We ensure all exit fees (if any) are paid, and coordinate your escorted exit.

Who to contact if I have issues?

Delhi CIU (Civil Immigration) helpdesk, or Continuum’s 24/7 local rep. We liaise with HQ of Customs (CBIC) and Immigration (BOI) to resolve any disputes.

How do we import fresh catering or fuel?

India allows import of aircraft fuel (paid duty) and catering within limits. Continuum pre-arranges the necessary CIQ permissions so trucks can operate seamlessly.

What are “overstay” rules?

Crew should strictly adhere to permitted days. Overstaying beyond visa validity incurs penalties. Continuum always tracks valid dates and can apply for extensions in-country if needed.

Specialising in both international and domestic aircrafts, we seamlessly manage arrivals, departures, and all aspects of ground support.
