All flights into or across Maldivian airspace require prior approval by the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA). Continuum’s permit services handle the Maldives permissions. Aircraft intending to enter Maldives airspace must apply for clearance to the MCAA at least 48 working hours before departure. This applies to both overflight and landing (technical or passenger) flights. The permit covers a 72-hour window.
Continuum Aviation submits flight details (schedule, route, passenger manifest) and aircraft documents (AOC, COA, insurance) via the designated ATC channels. For true transit flights, only an overflight permit is needed. For any intended landing (even just a fuel stop), we file both overflight and landing clearance. Maldives Airlines (Island Aviation) fees apply – we include the route navigation charges and any landing/parking fees in our coordination. By managing this process, Continuum ensures flights to the Maldives are approved without delay. Thanks to Maldives’ adherence to ICAO procedures, once permits are issued, operations proceed smoothly under global rules.
Yes. The MCAA requires an overflight permit for any aircraft transiting its airspace, no matter the flight type.
At least 48 working hours before your scheduled departure. Weekends count as working days.
Any landing (passenger or technical) also requires a prior permit. Continuum will file a landing permit in addition to the overflight permit, and inform the Maldives Airports Co. to clear local fees.
Flight schedule, route (entry/exit points), passenger details, and aircraft documents (AOC, CoA, insurance, cargo manifest, etc.). Continuum gathers and submits everything.
Typically +72 hours, covering flexibility in your timing.
Yes. Overflight payments (an ADF fee per flight) and landing/parking fees (if you land) are paid to Maldives Airports Co. Continuum calculates these and either pays or advises how to pay upon request.
48 hours is standard. In special cases, the authorities may expedite (e.g. humanitarian missions), but you should expect at least 2 days. Continuum can follow up to help speed things up if urgent.
No, permits only apply to foreign-registered aircraft. Maldivian airlines and seaplanes follow local flight planning.
No Maldives permit. Fuel is arranged on landing through our handling agent. But we do notify Fuelling companies of the aircraft’s arrival.
Any non-scheduled commercial or private flight follows the same rules. Charter or private doesn’t exempt from permits.
The Maldives Civil Aviation Authority’s Air Transport Department issues the permission. Continuum deals with them directly via e-mail and the MCAA online system.
Maldives follows ICAO SARPs. Our filings ensure compliance with rules for carriage of special cargo (e.g. dangerous goods) and military overflight restrictions.
Pilots should carry a copy of the permit onboard. We send the approved permit to crew. They must also have valid passports; visas are not needed as the Maldives grants arrival visa to most.
Any change in route or schedule after permit issuance must be reported. Minor timing shifts often covered by the 72h validity, but major route changes may need re-approval. Continuum handles amendments if needed.
Yes, we advise on optimum routing (typically direct A380 or overwater airways) and include necessary ATC routes in the permit application.
Specialising in both international and domestic aircrafts, we seamlessly manage arrivals, departures, and all aspects of ground support.
